University Hospital of North Midlands (UHNM) is looking to recruit a full time Locum Consultant Thoracic Surgeon. The successful candidates will join a dynamic group Cardiothoracic Surgeons. UHNM is a centre of excellence, a regional cancer centre and major trauma centre. There are two main hospital sites, the Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The Cardiothoracic  Department has 8 WTE consultant posts, 9 Middle grade doctors and 6 doctors in training.

University Hospitals of North Midlands has two sites: Royal Stoke University Hospital, located in Stoke-on-Trent, and County Hospital, located in Stafford. From these hospitals we provide a full range of general acute hospital services for people living in and around Staffordshire and beyond. The Trust also provides specialised services for three million people in a wider area, including neighbouring counties and North Wales.

Our specialised services include cancer diagnosis and treatment, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, renal and dialysis services, neonatal intensive care and paediatric intensive care. We are recognised for our particular expertise in trauma, respiratory conditions, spinal surgery, upper gastro-intestinal surgery, complex orthopaedic surgery, laparoscopic surgery and the management of liver conditions. The Trust has some of the most modern operating theatres in Europe.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Entry on Specialist Register in Cardiothoracic Surgery (or entry expected within 6 months via CCT from date of interview).
  • FRCS (CTh) or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • MS, MD or PhD

Clinical Experience & Training

Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate qualification in medical education
  • Experience of clinical supervision and mentorship
  • Sub specialist training

Academic Achievements, Research, Publications

Essential criteria
  • Experience of conducting clinical audit.
  • Experience of undergraduate teaching
Desirable criteria
  • Peer reviewed publications
  • Evidence of continuing research

Management and Administrative Experience:

Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of leadership
  • Evidence of implementing change within a department/service
