Job overview

We are looking for an individual to undertake a Technical Instructor post within the Specialised Therapy Team at Royal Stoke.  The post offers the opportunity to work in an exciting University Hospital.  The post holder will be part of one of two clinically based teams that make up the Therapies Directorate. 

The successful candidate will be supported by our excellent Senior and Advanced Therapists helping to rehabilitate patients predominantly on the Trauma, Elective Orthopaedics, Fractured Neck of Femur wards and also the Acute Rehabilitation and Trauma Unit, Neurology and Cardiothoracic wards.

The successful candidate should have experience of working within a healthcare environment and an understanding of Therapy interventions.  The post holder will also be expected to complete competencies in both Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy. 

Main duties of the job

The Therapies Department comprises of two multidisciplinary based teams, the Medical & Surgical Team and the Specialised Services Team, incorporating both Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.  These teams form part of the Trust Medical, Surgical and Specialised Services Divisions.  Each team is led by a Divisional Therapist, Mrs Noeleen Hellis leads the Specialised Services Therapy Team, Mrs Jane Teasdale leads the Medical & Surgical Therapy Team & Mrs Clare Johnson for the County Hospital.

Administration, clerical and secretarial support is provided to both sites and teams by an A&C team. All Staff must be courteous to patients, their carer’s, the general public, other staff and contacts external to the Trust at all times.

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English Grace C/ 4 or above or evidence of good literacy
  • GCSE Maths Grace C/4 or above or evidence of good numeracy
Desirable criteria
  • GCSE Science Grace C/4 or above
  • Completed or undertaking a Therapy Apprenticeship
  • A Level/NVQ Qualification
  • Qualification within health/social or sports environment


Essential criteria
  • Experience in a NHS or other Healthcare/social/Sports environment
Desirable criteria
  • Acute hospital experience
  • Experience of working in a therapy environment
  • NHS experience

Skills, Ability & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate well in writing
