Applications are invited for a Senior Training Fellow in General Surgery at the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM). The post is for a 6 month duration, to support Emergency surgery during Winter pressures.

We are looking for a dynamic, high calibre registrar who has the ability to deliver first class clinical care on a day to day basis within this extremely busy environment.

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for a Senior Training Fellow in General Surgery at the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM).

University Hospital of North Midlands is a large acute teaching hospital and major trauma centre in Staffordshire with two sites- Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke on Trent and County Hospital in Stafford.

We offer a broad range of medical and surgical specialties have good transport links, being close to the M6 and A50, and lie roughly centrally between Manchester to the North and Birmingham to the South, Derby and Shrewsbury to the East and West.

We are looking for a dynamic, high calibre registrar who has the ability to deliver first class clinical care on a day to day basis within this extremely busy environment.

This post has been established to support the General Surgical services provided due to increased local demand through the Winter period. . Recent experience of working in a busy acute trust is essential.

University Hospitals of North Midlands has two sites: Royal Stoke University Hospital, located in Stoke-on-Trent, and County Hospital, located in Stafford. From these hospitals we provide a full range of general acute hospital services for people living in and around Staffordshire and beyond. The Trust also provides specialised services for three million people in a wider area, including neighbouring counties and North Wales.

Our specialised services include cancer diagnosis and treatment, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, renal and dialysis services, neonatal intensive care and paediatric intensive care. We are recognised for our particular expertise in trauma, respiratory conditions, spinal surgery, upper gastro-intestinal surgery, complex orthopaedic surgery, laparoscopic surgery and the management of liver conditions. The Trust has some of the most modern operating theatres in Europe.

Essential criteria
  • MRCS Part two
  • Full GMC registration
  • MBBS or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A minimum of 2 years at SHO level in a substantive post in general surgery within the UK or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Training at SPR level or equivalent experience in a sub-specialty of general surgery
